Printing with stone - Experimental graphic printing with marble
Slabs of marble are suited for a variety of printing techniques. You can brilliantly paint and draw on white marble due to excellent contrasts and the stone's good ability to absorb the paint.
A drawing or painting applied to the stone can be printed straight onto paper which results in a monotype. Another possibility is to work the surface with different tools. With hammer and chisel or with other tools you can create raised motives on the surface. After the application of dye you can make prints using either relief or intaglio technique.
Due to the manual printing the result is always unique. The charm of this paint-print technique is the interaction of volitional and accidental occurrence, of technical precision and spontaneity.
The scope for design is almost limitless. You can use nearly all paints in combination with a variety of papers and fabrics. The carved and coloured 'printing plate', namely the stone slab, is an extraordinary object of art and unites the world of painting with the one of stone sculpting.
No previous knowledge required, all materials and tools are supplied.
