The Study of the Nude Form: Figure and Space

The study of the nude form belongs to the fundamental training of a painter and sketch artist, since nothing is as versatile and complex as the human figure.
Apart from introducing basic techniques of figurative sketching the course will focus on bringing together two, at first glance mutually exclusive, working principles in the presence of a nude model:  the increasingly confident, calculating visualisation – proportions, statics and functions of the human body – and the spontaneous, sensuous perception and sensation.

Every working week includes 5 mornings of intensive exercises and tasks regarding the topic of the figure. We will work with varying techniques and strategies, realistically and freely, experimentally and academically. Our work areas are sheltered and shaded under the Tuscan sky.
Four afternoons are set aside for 'free work' within a studio – one afternoon working with big formats. On Friday afternoon of each week there will be a detailed discussion of the work and pictures are chosen for the final exhibition.  
Two nude models - either simultaneously or alternating – will be present for 6 hours daily.
A spacious studio is 'open all hours' for all participants. Every day ends with feedback and reflection in group meetings.

Examples of art history add to your own perception and will make traditional and current artistic position more comprehensible.

The course is open for beginners without prior experience as well as for advanced participants who wish to broaden their knowledge. It is also suited as preparation for entrance examinations to art academies and as an aid to preparing a portfolio.
Every uncomplicated technical medium can be used which enables the spontaneous jotting down of visual experiences: charcoal, chalks, pastels, acrylic, ink, etc. All materials like papers, paint bases (paper board, textiles etc.) primer, crayons, paints, brushes, the use of easels and paint boards  are included in the course fee. Also included are costs for the models of € 65 per week.
