Free and Representational, between Calculation and Intuition

In this course we will feel out the creative tension between perception of nature and liberal interpretation, between calculated planning and spontaneity.

The starting point of the visual process is the material: paints, primer, paint bases, canvas etc. But:  is the creative approach dictated by the material or does the artistic idea find its own appropriate material?

The Workshop Painting will try to answer the following: How do I find my own topic? How do I develop my individual style and last but not least my own personal artistic concept?

The mornings are dedicated to intensive assignments: academic and experimental as well as realistic and liberal composition. In doing so we will try out different techniques and pictorial strategies and discuss them.

The afternoons are spent developing your own topics. In group discussions and individual studies we will reflect and review your personal approach. The tutor will present traditional and contemporary positions to broaden the discussion of your own experience.

Workshop Painting is open for beginners as well as advanced students who wish to expand their skills. Prior knowledge is not mandatory.
Please bring along: basic equipment of preferred painting utensils and sketch book. Further materials, papers, primer, paints etc are supplied.
